Thérèse A. Stukel, PhD, is a Senior Scientist at ICES Toronto; Professor, Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME), University of Toronto; and Professor of Biostatistics and Health Policy, The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice (TDI), Hanover, NH, USA. Current research interests are on the effects of health system resources and organization on delivery of care and outcomes in Canada and the US. She created Ontario Multispecialty Physician Networks, virtual physician networks that mimic US Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) and has evaluated their efficiency in managing patients with chronic disease. Using statistical machine learning techniques, she is developing models to predict high need, high cost users of the health care system. Methods will compare traditional statistical prediction models with modern machine-learning methods
