Daria Bukanova-Berend
Daria Bukanova‑Berend is a PhD candidate at the Chair of Health Economics, Policy and Management at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. Her research focuses on chronic disease management, hospital capacity planning, and health system financing, using large-scale administrative data and advanced causal inference methods.
Daria examines inpatient resource utilisation among patients with chronic conditions and conducts economic evaluations of hospital planning reforms, focusing on their effects on direct (e.g., hospital costs) and indirect (e.g., travel costs) costs in Switzerland. She also investigates what COPD patients with low health literacy need to enhance their self-management.
Before starting her PhD, Daria worked in strategy and product roles in consulting, fintech, and digital health, which inform her practice-oriented approach to health services research and collaboration with policymakers and providers.
