Alexander Geissler is a full professor of Health Economics, Policy and Management at the School of Medicine of the University of St. Gallen. In his primarily empirically driven research, he deals with questions of health economics, health services research and health systems research. The focus is on researching and developing instruments for measuring and controlling the efficiency in health care. This includes components of remuneration and incentive systems as well as questions of quality measurement, presentation and transparency. Increasingly, he is linking the two research strands to make better statements about the optimal use of scarce resources in the health care system. A special feature is his international orientation, both in terms of his publications and his research objects, which is evident in his engagements for supranational organisations such as the World Bank, the EU Commission and national ministries and think tanks.
