In his primarily empirically driven research, he deals with questions of health economics, health services research and health systems research. The focus is on researching and developing instruments for measuring and controlling the efficiency in health care. This includes components of remuneration and incentive systems as well as questions of quality measurement, presentation and transparency. Increasingly, he is linking the two research strands to make better statements about the optimal use of scarce resources in the health care system.
